I am relatively sure I have posted on this before - I definitely am too lazy to look right now though - but the Bush-administration successfully erodes any remaining trust that they might still have had in the world by using a double standard in regard to their attempts of democratization. It seems - and it not only seems, this is a fact - as if there are two kind of non-democratic states, good ones, and bad ones. The differences might be slight or non-existent but some have to suffer from the wrath of the American might (Cuba, North Korea, Iraq, Iran et al) while others enjoy a blossoming relationship (Egypt, Pakistan, Kazakhstan...). Hypocrisy is never a good idea, even less so when one is trying to sell an ideal.
