The legendary author of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle, also wrote other - lesser known - works of fiction (and apparently rather bizarre spiritual works). In this case he tells the story of a British expedition to a Lost World in South America where dinosaurs have survived and adventure still looms. He clearly writes in the realm of early 20th (late 19th) century British (and other) adventure authors like HG Wells or Jules Verne.
